Amniotic fluid ventilation for type 1
respiratory failure from COVID-19

[written in May 2020]

I have been wondering about other ways of helping patients currently needing ventilation, but still dying.

I understand that amniotic fluid is not allergenic and if oxygenated and delivered into failing lungs in place of ventilation, I wondered if it would help provide not only oxygen, but also stem cells in the fight against the disease.

It is apparent that children are faring better in this current pandemic and I speculate that this is due to the very different immune system still in place, including higher numbers of stem cells.

Insertion of a probe to electrically charge the fluid might also prevent the virus capsule binding to the alveoli which must be the start of the pathological process.

I appreciate that this is all supposition, but could not see anything along these lines currently being tried.
