As a rural GP, I have had to treat many patients with nasty bites and have heard of many remedies aimed at avoiding this problem; none seem to work well.
However, I have noticed that insects fly away from electrified fences and static on balloons and have observed muscular contractions of flies during lightning storms.
My idea would be to wear a modified TENS machine with wire braided into a jacket or shirt and for pulses of electricity to flow through the garment with the hope that insects would be repelled.
I believe that it would not cost much to research the basic principles and it is based on a safe-for-humans technology.
